Accreditation, Elections Main Focus at NCPMC Meeting

The National Certified Public Manager Consortium, which establishes the standards for the certified public manager (CPM) designation, recently held their annual meeting September 29-30. During this two-day gathering, the membership took significant actions on several items including accreditation and national elections. In 2012, ASPA welcomed several CPM chapters across the United States as one of its section, the Association of Certified Public Managers (AACPM).

The body voted to grant initial accreditation to two CPM programs:

  • University of the Virgin Islands/The Government of the Virgin Islands.
  • University of Washington Tacoma, KeyBank Professional Development Center.

In addition, the following programs received approval for continued accreditation:

  • Auburn University at Montgomery.
  • Government of the District of Columbia.
  • Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
  • Utah Department of Human Resource Management.

Each of these accredited organizations provide training that leads to a CPM designation for their graduates. Each program has met the requirements to provide a training program for public sector supervisors and managers that meet the core competencies of:

1. Personal and Organizational Integrity
2. Managing Work
3. Leading People
4. Developing Self
5. Systemic Integration
6. Public Service Focus
7. Change Leadership

In addition, national officers were elected for the next year. The newly elected officers are:

Chair: Mary R. Hamilton, School of Public Administration, University of Nebraska at Omaha
Vice Chair: Mary DeLorenzo, The New Mexico EDGE, Mexico State University
Secretary: Charles Taylor, Bowen Center for Public Affairs, Ball State University
At-large: Cheryl Robertson, Workforce Development Administration, District of Columbia
Ann Cotten, Maryland, Schaefer Center for Public Policy, University of Baltimore
