Scholarly ethical research reaches a wide audience. This webinar will discuss the activities of ASPA’s Ethics Section and ASPA’s Ethics Committee by draw special attention to issues that have implications for all public service professionals. The review process will identify challenges faced by administrators generally as they seek to meet the full range of their ethical responsibilities. Presenters will discuss standards, the review process, and examine transparency as an example of an ethics issue.

 

 


ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Suzanne Piotrowski, Associate Professor, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey

Suzanne J. Piotrowski is an associate professor of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University-Newark. She is chair of ASPA’s Ethics section.  She founded and moderates the International Transparency and Secrecy Research Network listserv.  She served as the conference chair and founder of the 1st Global Conference on Transparency Research (Rutgers University-Newark, May 2011).  She has consulted with the World Bank Institute on an evaluation of Thailand’s Official Information Act and with the Carter Center on a project assessing how access to information differentially affects women.  She currently serves as the independent assessor of the United States national action plan for the Open Government Partnership.

James Svara, Visiting Professor, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Emeritus Professor, Arizona State University
Svara specializes in local government politics, management, ethics, innovation, and sustainability.  He has a special interest in the roles and responsibilities of elected and administrative officials at all levels of government. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and an honorary member of the International City/County Management Association. He was a founding board member of the Alliance for Innovation. He received his BA in History from the University of Kentucky in 1965 and his Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University in 1972.He is currently a visiting professor in the School of Government, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
