Presented by the Section on Environmental and Natural Resources Administration (SENRA)

In the current global economy, plagued by high oil and gas prices, fracking offers the hope of energy independence, affordable energy and employment opportunities. There are also hopes relates to its potential for reducing emissions of carbon dioxide in comparison with traditional sources of energy, like coal, which pose a serious threat to climate change.  From a political perspective, the importance of fracking cannot be ignored. The discovery of huge reserves of natural gas in various parts of North America implies gradual reduction in the geo-political influence and market power of the major oil and gas producing nations in the world. Oil could slowly be replaced by natural gas as the primary source of energy in various sectors of the economy.  Yet, behind the façade of socio-economic benefits, there are serious environmental concerns. This webinar will provide a glimpse into the efficacy of U.S. regulatory policies that enable and regulate the fracking process and also offer some insights into the legal process that make fracking possible in this country.
