Angels are Calling

27 angels are calling.

After an unimaginable day in Newton, Connecticut, these angels summon us.

Many of us will ask how or why or who’s responsible for this atrocity? Certainly this could have been prevented, we may say. We will suggest it is a failure of security or mental health systems. Laying blame is a temporary elixir to reduce the pain of the grief we all share. But as the tempering effect of laying blame wears off, we are left with questions unanswered and holes in our hearts.

So while we may never have the consolation of answers to who’s responsible, why, and how, we can answer one question – what can I do next? In light of this horrifying darkness, what can I do next to lift up another soul? In the wake of this evil of evils, what I can do next to serve my fellow man?

Is there a greater tribute to these 27 souls than to ask ourselves what can I do next, and to act on that answer?

We say public service is a calling. 27 voices beckon.
