U.N. Secretary-General Urges Action on Climate Change

Ahead of an international meeting to address climate change and global transportation, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is calling on industry leaders to combat climate change. On May 28, 2015, transport ministers from across the globe will convene in Germany to discuss transport-related climate change impacts of trade and tourism.

“I urge all of you to accelerate your efforts,” said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. “It is time to reshape the world’s transport systems for a cleaner, safer and more sustainable future.”

According to Ban, sustainable transport is the “common thread” linking the upcoming U.N. Summit in September in New York and the COP21 climate change conference in Paris in December. In New York, world leaders will define a post-2015 development agenda. In Paris, governments will seek to agree on concrete actions to limit the effects of global warming.
