6th ICPA was Successfully Held at Australian National University

Sponsored by University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, The Chinese Public Administration Journal, Institute of Public Administration Australia, American Society for Public Administration, Australian National University, co-sponsored by School of Public Administration of Moscow State University, hosted by Crawford School of Economics and Government of Australian National University, The Australia and New Zealand School of Government, School of Political Science and Public Administration of UESTC, the 2010 International Conference on Public Administration (6th ICPA) was successfully held at Australian National University on October 22-24, 2010.

Zhu Xiao-ning, dean of School of Political Science and Public Administration of UESTC, Meredith A. Newman, president (2010-2011) of American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), and Andrew Podger, president of Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) served as the conference chairs. Antoinette A. Samuel, executive director of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and Zhao Shu-rong from School of Political Science and Public Administration of UESTC served as executive chairs.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Zhu Xiao-ning, and Zhao Shu-rong from School of Political Science and Public Administration of UESTC. The keynote presentation was chaired by Antoinette A. Samuel, from ASPA. The closing ceremony was chaired by Andrew Podger, from the Institute of Public Administration, Australia. More than 200 academic experts and experienced public administrators from several countries including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Russia, China attended the conference.

Andrew Podger; Antoinette A. Samuel; Ian Chubb, vice chancellor of Australian National University; Donald C. Menzel, academic committee chairperson of International Conference on Public Administration; Zhang Ding-an, associate editor in chief of Chinese Public Administration Journal; Zhang Jun, vice president and secretary general of Public Administration Society of Shandong Province delivered opening remarks.

Focusing on the theme “Public Administration Challenges and Opportunities: Serving Citizens in a Globalised World”, Mike Woods, deputy chairman and commissioner of Productivity Commission of Australia, Meredith A. Newman, president (2010-2011) of ASPA, Li Jun-qing, dean of School of Management of Minzu University of China delivered keynote presentations. At this conference , there are four concurrent panels for three presenter sessions respectively and two special panels including an international ethical governance panel. More than 50 experts and scholars from both China and abroad made presentations.

As an important annual international academic conference, ICPA, initiated by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, ASPA and the Chinese Public Administration Society, has gradually developed into a worldwide academic event with large scale, high level  influence in the international field of public administration. As the initiator of this conference, 2005 ICPA, 2007 ICPA and 200 9ICPA were successfully held in the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, P.R. China, 2006 ICPA and 2008 ICPA were respectively held in Warwick University, UK and the University of Minnesota, USA. Moreover, proceedings of 2005 ICPA, 2006 ICPA, 2007 ICPA, 2008 ICPA and 2009 ICPA have been successfully indexed by ISI Web of Knowledge (ISSHP/ISTP). The 2010 ICPA proceedings will be sent to index by ISI Web of Knowledge (ISSHP), as well.

The 7th International Conference on Public Administration will be held in October 2011 in Sichuan, China.
