In a time where the public’s confidence in the federal workforce has eroded, one special program is eager to help honor their service and reassure employees how essential they are to our nation. Dubbed the Oscars of government service, the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals (also called the Sammies) is currently seeking nominations of federal employees who have dedicated service and significant contributions to our country.
Presented annually by the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization Partnership for Public Service, the “Sammies” celebrate excellence in our federal civil service. These awards provide inspiring testimony to the important and effective work of our government. Each honoree is an example of the positive contributions that federal employees make every day.
“Sammies” are awarded in the following categories:
There is tremendous talent in our federal workforce. A “Sammie” nomination is an opportunity to show an employee or colleague that his or her service is valued and appreciated. If you know a federal employee that uses their talents in a meaningful way to address the needs of our nation, nominate them for the 2014 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals.
Nominations may be submitted on-line through January 17, 2014. Anyone familiar with the nominee’s accomplishments may submit a nomination. Self-nominations are not accepted.
