Conference Update: Recognizing Excellent Public Servants

Take a moment to meet the 2013 National Public Service Award recipients. This year’s recipients include a city manager, labor advocate and an IT specialist, and you can find their profiles here.

The National Public Service Awards were established by ASPA and the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) to recognize the work of exemplary public managers. This award program aims to raise the profile of public service, promote professionalism and change attitudes towards government administrators.

The recipients will be presented their awards on Monday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. during the Stone Lecture at ASPA’s Annual Conference. A reception will also be held later that evening from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm in honor of the recipients.

Additionally, ASPA and NAPA present the Rosslyn Kleeman Keeper of the Flame Award each year. Established in 2000, this award gives special recognition to an individual who has continued to volunteer and provide services after their official retirement from the public service profession. View the profile of this year’s winner, Thomas Lynch, here.

In addition to our award winners, ASPA is thankful for our local hosts, Louisiana State University (LSU) and the University of New Orleans (UNO) who will help the New Orleans conference run smoothly. When you get to town for the conference, don’t forget to join us at the Welcome Reception supported by both universities. Additionally, LSU is sponsoring a Host Luncheon on Saturday, March 16 at 12:15 pm featuring Sen. Mary Landrieu that will recognize local Louisiana public servants.

We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans and we hope you stop by these events to help honor these outstanding public servants. For more information, visit the conference website, www.aspanet.org/2013conference.
