ysw

ASPA along with Jilin University will host the third International Young Scholars Workshop in Public Policy and Administration Research. This workshop is specifically targeted to junior faculty and graduate students and offers an opportunity for both groups to interact with tenured and experienced researchers. The 2014 Workshop will be held in Changchun, China on July 21-24, 2014.

During the three-day workshop young scholars working in public policy, public administration and related fields get experience on conducting public administration research and obtain key feedback in intimate settings. Organizers are currently accepting proposals on research papers and projects for selection at the workshop. The 2013 workshop was described as an ‘enriching experience’ by the faculty that participated. Several participants included ASPA members Tonya Thornton Neaves and Jared Llorens.

Proposals can cover a broad range of public policy and administration issues including, and are not limited to, the following:

  1. The response of public policy and administration to post-crisis governance.
  2. Empirical policy analysis in such specific fields as fiscal, environmental, health, labor, etc.
  3. Traditional public administration topics, including but not limited to performance management, leadership, human resources and budgeting.
  4. Aspects of strategic management and collaboration in public sectors.
  5. The challenge of working across levels of governments and sectors.
  6. The state of public sector ethics.

Submissions from doctoral candidates at the stage of dissertation writing or engaged in field work, postdoctoral fellows and young professionals (including assistant professors, lecturers or research fellows) will be accepted. All research papers and projects must be empirically based. Applications beyond the above illustrative topics will certainly be considered.

Applicants should submit a summary of their research papers or projects containing no more than 250 words (in English) via e-mail to the YSW Planning Committee at [email protected]. Submission deadline is Friday, April 4, 2014.
